Jul 11, 2017,
Excuses.
We all have them (trust me …I used to have a LOT of them).
But here’s the thing about excuses…
They keep us stuck. They make us victims. They distract from the bigger, harder issues that need attention, care, and love.
Sometimes the line between excuses and perceived reality is confusing.
Let me make it clear.
Anything that you really, really, really want in your life that is within your control of getting, is absolutely possible.
All of the reasons that go through your head about why you don’t have what you really, really, really want, those are excuses, my love.
The problem is, most people don’t trust how powerful and fully capable they are. And so instead of taking responsibility for their life and taking action, they continue to give their power away, along with a bunch of bullshit reasons (aka excuses) why they can’t get their shit together and have the life that they so desperately want.
Today I’m giving you a kick in the pants love letter for the next time excuses start to crawl into your brain. Here goes (with lots of love).
My dear,
This whole story that you tell yourself over and over again about not being able to FILL IN THE BLANK is bullshit and it’s a mechanism to keep you stuck. And while being stuck doesn’t generally seem like a good idea, there are lots of comfy cozy reasons to stay stuck.
I don’t know your reason for staying stuck. Maybe you don’t even know. That’s okay, it’s not important. What IS important is that you start telling yourself a different story and you start today.
No more:
I will fail.
I don’t have enough money.
I don’t have enough time.
I can’t cook.
It’s too late for me.
It runs in my family.
These are the cards I was dealt.
My family isn’t on board.
It’s hard.
It’s time to shut that shit down and put those excuses nigh’ nigh’.
You are a grown ass person, fully capable of taking care of your beautiful self in the best possible way.
In your life, you have achieved impossibly hard things. You have overcome struggles that you had no idea how you would make work. And you have faced challenges with grace, grit and strength. You are a strong, beautiful, capable, powerful force of a human and NOTHING can stand in your way… unless you let it.
So don’t fucking let it.
You have one life. This is not a dress rehearsal.
Pick one place to start and do the damn thing. When excuses start running through your head about how and why this will never work, tell them to shut the hell up, and move forward. Keep going. Put one foot in front of the other. And don’t you dare stop until you reach whatever it is that you really, really, really want.
And when you reach it, claim it like an unspayed female cat during mating season, give yourself a bear hug and a sloppy kiss and decide on the next thing you want in life. And begin again. As long as you are relying on you, you can have whatever you want in this big, beautiful, messy, perfectly imperfect world.
You don’t have to fail.
You have enough money.
You have enough time.
You can cook.
It’s never too late.
It doesn’t matter if it runs in your family.
Fuck the cards you were dealt, trade them in for new ones.
Who cares if your family isn’t on board, do this for yourself and let them eventually follow.
Life’s hard, get over it and do the damn thing anyway.
Can I get a mother fucking high five?

Today’s recipe is beautifully simple and just as delish. Slather it on a crisp green salad, and show your gorgeous body who’s boss.
Ingredients
- ½ cup raw shelled sunflower seeds, toasted (70g)
- 1 tablespoon tahini
- 1 garlic clove peeled and left whole
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon brown rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Coconut Aminos
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup water 175ml
Instructions
- Heat a skillet for 2 minutes on low heat. Add the sunflower seeds and toast for 4 - 5 minutes, stirring frequently so they don’t burn.
- Add the toasted sunflower seeds to your blender, along with the rest of the ingredients (tahini, garlic, yellow mustard, brown rice vinegar, Coconut Aminos, salt and water), and blend until super creamy and smooth.
Wishing you a happy week. May it be filled with bringing your excuses to the post office and shipping them far, far away.

This mustard dressing looks so delicious! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us, I’m definitely going to try it! =)
Love all of it!
Tell it like it is… no sugar coating!
Holy crap I needed to hear this! Thanks. I have a shitload of excuses on board and am kicking them off one by one. My main one is that stress is causing me to gain/hold on to weight and therefore the junk food/sweets I stuff into my body at night aren’t the problem. My stress (child addicted to heroin) is not an excuse for me to feel like crap and be too heavy to move around and enjoy life. THANK YOU!
So glad you got something out of this!
Our mindset is everything and you have everything it takes to eat healthy and do this for yourself!

Thank you so much for your wonderful blog. I love people who are straight shooters and tell it like it is :). Your recipe is a lifesaver because it tastes amazingly creamy, is vegan and with very little vinegar. I was wondering if I would ever find a recipe like this as I have food intolerances and woohoo here it is! Mucho thx.
Lots of love right back at ya!

I just turned 58 and you are so right, it is never too late to make a change. I am so blessed to have a husband is doing it with me and the support of a son in the navy who has been doing this for almost 3 years now. I have lost 63lbs in 8 months and I feel amazing. It is a lot of work because we meal prep on Sun. but I find myself looking forward to trying new recipes each week. Love the love letter, it is telling it like it is while be being positive and encouraging people to say yes to taking better care of themselves no matter what anyone else says. I say YES I am so worth it. Thanks for the inspiration and recipes. Sending lots of love your way.
Thanks for sharing, Lisa! Way to go on your major lifestyle change AND to your family too! ~Karen
