Eating more plants and feeling amazing doesn’t happen by accident—it takes intention and lots of dirty dishes. Here are 8 things to help you on your plant-based path—no perfection required. From meal prep to mindset shifts, these tips will help you stay on track, enjoy the process, and keep moving forward. Let’s dive in.

1. Plant-Based Meal Prep

If you want to eat a whole-food plant-based diet, make time to plant-based meal prep each week. Maybe you batch cook once a week or make a big pot of soup, an oil-free salad dressing, and wash your greens over the weekend. This food does not make itself, my friend. If you don’t chisel out time for prepping and cooking, you will be ordering takeout in no time.

2. Find some joy in grocery shopping and cooking 

Grocery shopping and cooking are part of the deal, so do what you can to find some joy in it. If you’re committed to disliking grocery shopping and cooking, it will never get easier. Since this is non-negotiable for fueling your awesome body with plants, you may as well cozy up to it and stop talking shit. 😅 The more you make the decision to like it, the easier it will be. 3. Toss perfection in the garbage disposal

Do not aim for perfection. Aim for a balance that will keep you eating this way most of the time. If you try for 100%, you will eventually fail (this is true for everyone, not just you). And when people fail, giving up isn’t far behind. But if you shoot for eating a whole-food plant-based diet a good portion of the time, you create room for eating other things (if you want) without seeing it as a fail, throwing in the towel, or giving up on plants for the next 11.5 weeks until you’re ready to try again.

4. Make food that tastes good

Make recipes that wow you and your fam. If you want to make healthy changes to your diet for the long term, the food has to taste good or no one will want to eat it. 5. Focus on daily habits

Goals are great for time-dependent, measurable things you want to accomplish, like running a 5k or starting a business. But when it comes to having a healthy lifestyle, goals aren’t as helpful. Instead, focus on the daily and weekly habits that support the lifestyle you want (I’m lookin’ at you, grocery shopping and prepping). 

6. Keep going

Stop starting over and just keep going. If you think about it, no one can actually “start over.” We can only go from where we are, and where we are is a lot further along than where we were. Instead of  “starting over” again and again, have the next choice you make be in alignment with what you want most for yourself. Don’t start over, just keep going. 

7. Take your B12

If you’re eating plant-based, make sure you take a B12 supplement. I’ve been taking this one for years (affiliate link), and my levels are always within normal range when I get my bloodwork done.

8. Shame no more

Finally, give yourself plenty of love and compassion. No one ever shamed their way into being healthy and living their best life. Those are opposing energies. Want to be healthy, strong, glowing, and in control of your life? Then stop beating yourself up—it isn’t helping.
