Relieving and frustrating

Sometimes we want to control the actions of other humans.
Especially in the offspring, spouse, sibling, parent, politics, and justice categories.

But we can’t.

How do I know?

Because our thoughts create our feelings.
Our feelings fuel our actions.
And our actions determine our results.

Our thoughts don’t create other people’s feelings (their thoughts do).
Our feelings don’t fuel other people’s actions (their feelings do).
Our actions don’t determine other people’s results (their actions do).

This is both relieving and frustrating.

Relieving because I can’t control another human.
Frustrating because I can’t control another human.

So what do we do? Do we put up our hands and say, “Fuck it!” when we see people behaving in ways we don’t want them to behave?

That’s an option, and maybe there are situations where that’s appropriate for you. The other option is to stand in your power and remind yourself of what you can control.

You are in control of your thoughts, your feelings, your actions, and your results.

So decide with intention how you want to show up for yourself, the people you love, and humanity (showing up with love is always an option).

Just because you can’t control another human does not mean, and I can’t stress this enough, that you can’t positively affect change, lead by example, or start a revolution.

Not because you have the power to change someone else, but because your power just might inspire someone else to change themselves.

Start with yourself. Never them.
