What a South African circus troupe reminded me of
I went to see a professional circus / dance troupe from South Africa called Zip Zap a couple weeks ago.
My jaw was on the floor throughout the performance. What these dancers could do with their bodies was astounding. Gravity and human anatomy didn’t seem to get in their way much. I saw one guy do one-arm push-ups while he was UPSIDE DOWN and balancing on a 10-foot pole. I had no idea that was even possible. I saw bodies flying through the air, flipping and jumping, and bending in half—backward. I saw magnificent things I can’t even describe.
As I was watching the show, I kept thinking how hard it is for me to do a regular ass single push-up while these humans looked effortlessly weightless as they flipped and twisted through the air. My relative lack of upper body strength didn’t bum me out though. I was too preoccupied being inspired by the potential human bodies have.
I don’t actually have the desire to do an upside-down one-armed push-up from 10 feet in the air, but it’s thrilling to know there are human bodies out there that can do that. It’s thrilling because when I think about all the stuff I do want to do, there are people out there who’ve already done them, which tells me the potential for me to do them is there.
When we started Clean Food Dirty Girl, do you know what my mantra was?
Lots of people have successful online businesses, there’s no reason why we can’t.
I didn’t know how to do it, but I knew the potential was there, and that’s all we needed to move forward and figure it out.
That amazing circus troupe reminded me that it’s the same with my current-day desires.
I might not know how to make all my wants happen, but that part doesn’t matter. The potential is there.
Potential is the fuel that moves you forward when you don’t know what to do next.
You are capable of making your dreams a reality, and it all starts with realizing that you have the potential to make them happen.
