Why did you decide to eat more plants?
My motto is to eat more real food—food that I can identify. Food that I know will fuel my body so it can perform its best in all I do. I always want to be the best version of myself, and I truly believe that eating more plants is the way to make this happen.
How has eating more plants helped you?
Eating more plant food has helped me so much physically—I have fewer gut issues. I sleep better. I have more energy. I no longer feel heavy and dragged down by the processed foods I was eating before.
How has our open-minded, LGBTQIA+ friendly community impacted your life?
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, I’m always trying to figure out where I fit in this world. Sometimes I don’t feel “gay enough” in the way I look. But I don’t feel “conservative enough” to fit into what society deems “normal” (at least where I live). So it’s nice to be a part of a community here that is run by women that are like me in so many ways.
What is the most important thing you’d like to share with the Clean Food Dirty Girl community?
One thing I have learned about going plant based is that it can look different for everybody. Maybe you decide to go stop eating all animal products overnight. Or maybe you decide to go at it gradually. But that is your choice and part of your journey and what works for you. The vegan community can often be harsh and unforgiving, but I’m constantly reminding myself that they are not a part of my journey. Only I know the struggles I have had that have gotten me to where I am now. Only I know the work I’ve put in to eat in a way that feels good to me. You are the only one in charge of your journey, and it’s important to remember that when you come across those who may not support your decisions.
What do you love about yourself?
I love my determination to live my life with intention and to get back up over and over again even after the bad days.
