We probably all need to do this
Hello beautiful human,
Let’s talk about worry and regret and what to do about it.
If you ever find yourself having a hard time letting go of the past or worried about the future, take a few deep breaths and come back to the present moment.
We can’t change what happened in the past.
We don’t know what’s going to happen in the future.
We exist right here and right now.
Instead of getting sick with regret or worry, come back to now. The following prompts will help you. You can do this anytime you feel yourself start to spin out.
👀 Name 5 things you see.
👂 Name 4 things you hear.
👃 Name 3 things you smell.
🖐️ Name 2 things you can feel with your skin.
👅 Name 1 thing you taste.
After you do that, take a few more breaths and then make whatever next best choice you can.
Can you eat a piece of fruit?
Drink a glass of water?
Go for a walk?
Make some phone calls?
Book a workout session?
Call a friend?
Take a shower?
Make your voice heard?
Cook a plant-powered recipe?
Learn about something new?
Decide on an organization to volunteer for?
Hug someone you love?
Our lives are shaped by all of our little actions, small choices, and day-to-day decisions. It’s what we do the majority of the time that matters most, whether that’s how we eat, how we move our bodies, or how we spend our time. When we’re consumed with anxiety, regret, or worry, we tend to do things that work against our best interest, the best interest of our communities, and the best interest of the world.
But when we stop and come back to the present moment, take intentional breaths, and focus just on the next best choice we can make, we will start making choices that align with our values and goals, and that ultimately support us and the world around us.
The choices we make out of fear and worry are much different than the choices we make out of peace and courage.
There is oh-so-much we don’t have control over, and that we’ve never had control over.
So it’s extra, extra important that the things we do have control over are done with intention, kindness, and love.
Come back to now, keep coming back. It’s all we have and it’s always here for us.
