Are you up for feeling awkward with me?
Hi, I’m Molly, and I have a human body that sometimes weird smells and sounds come out of.
I also have a human brain that has so many thoughts it’s impossible to keep track. Sometimes it gets really noisy, and I have to go in there and adjust the volume.
There are a lot of other humans on this earth, too.
Things that all the other humans and I have in common include: 1) we were all born and 2) we will all die. Imagine that. 100% of us have this in common.
It seems we would be talking more about this.
With our human bodies and our human brains and our human hearts, most of us feel a lot of things. Sometimes those feelings don’t feel so good.
Hi, I’m Molly, and I don’t like feeling worry, shame, embarrassment, awkwardness, fear, overwhelm, uncertainty, or dread. Hi, I’m Molly, and I just remembered why we don’t talk more about death. 🙃
I’ve noticed that some things make the harder stuff a little less hard, like hearing your cat breathe as they sleep. Or even the sound of your own breath. That’s nice too.
Sometimes being human doesn’t make any sense at all. And no one really knows why we’re here or what we’re supposed to be doing. Not even the people with matching socks and letters after their names. Everyone just kind of picks a few lanes and starts busying themselves, because, well, what else are we supposed to do?
I’ve noticed that sometimes humans try to be perfect because they don’t like their shadowy parts. But you can’t have the sun without the shadows. That seems to be how it works around here.
Hi, I’m Molly, and I’m a human on this planet, right along with you.
Do you want to try and be a little more human with me?
What would that look like, I wonder.
A little more softness and patience? A little more willingness to be imperfect? A little more openness to feeling the hard stuff? A little more understanding and acceptance of our human-ness? A little more relaxing into the unknown?
I don’t have the answers. But I like the question.
What would leaning into your human-ness look like for you today?
Molly
