Why did you decide to eat more plants?

To help me be healthier, to do my part for the environment, and because I was disgusted by eating animals.

How has eating more plants helped you?

It has helped me be more physically fit and healthier than I have ever been in my life (I’m 47). Eating plant based fuels my aerial trapeze practice!

How has our open-minded, LGBTQIA+ friendly community impacted your life?

It’s just lovely to see Molly and Luanne as a couple like it’s no big deal, since it isn’t! Representation is important. Even though I’m just a lurker, I have always felt welcome in the CFDG community because of Molly’s openness about herself.

What is the most important thing you’d like to share with the Clean Food Dirty Girl community?

I feel like the CFDG community is already pretty accepting, but I would ask people to consider that just because you don’t understand someone or how they present or what they believe, you can still love and respect them as a human.

I would ask that, even if you come to Veganism for your health, think about the impact on animals and don’t forget that humans are animals too, and we all have a responsibility to make space and support the voices of those who historically have been excluded. We all have privilege and disadvantages, and we have a responsibility to the world around us to step up in our privilege. I am a non-binary queer human, which means I face discrimination and hate and anger just by being me. But I am also white, so I have a responsibility to uplift and support those in my community who are not.

What do you love about yourself?

I am proud of living authentically as myself when it’s so hard to be seen as a non-binary human in a gender binary world. I love that I can role-model that for my kid. I love that I’m empathetic and compassionate and consider how my actions will impact the world and the people around me. And I love how strong I am and how my upper body looks. 🙂
