Non-existent Eyebrows

So I was looking at my face in the mirror the other night after my shower.

I noticed my almost non-existent blonde eyebrows. Non-existent thanks to the razor-thin eyebrow trend of the 90s, blonde thanks to my dad.

I noticed my almost invisible blonde eyelashes.

My first thought was that I would look so much better with long, full, dark eyebrows and long dark eyelashes.

But I stopped that thought in its tracks, I looked straight into my eyes, and I thought:

What if my eyes are perfect just as they are?
What if my almost non-existent blonde eyebrows and blonde eyelashes are beautiful?
What if my thoughts about what my face should look like are just stories I’ve been telling myself for a long time?

Interesting...

Then I considered if there was an upside to thinking my eyelashes and eyebrows should be different than they are.

Nope, I couldn’t find an upside.

Is there a downside? Well, it doesn’t feel good to think I should be different than I am, so yes, there is a downside.

“What new thought could I try on about my eyelashes and eyebrows?” I asked myself as I lotioned up and continued getting ready for bed.

My eyelashes and eyebrows are beautiful and perfect for me.

That’s a new thought that feels pretty awesome.

Is there an upside to thinking this? Yes, when I accept myself and love myself just as I am, I feel at peace, I also feel beautiful.

Is there a downside?

Nope, no downside.

So now I’m loving my eyebrows and eyelashes just as they are. And if I ever want to change things up and put on some mascara, it’s because it’s fun, not because I’m trying to correct something that I am thinking is flawed.

What you think about yourself matters, and those thoughts are totally up to you.

The best part is, you can just make thoughts up and eventually have new beliefs.

Accepting yourself doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process of digging into your past, uncovering past hurts from when you were 13, going on a silent retreat in the woods, reading 33 1/2 self-help books, hanging a dreamcatcher, and reciting 130 mantras every morning.

It can be as easy as thinking a new thought and then practicing that thought.

My eyelashes and eyebrows are beautiful and perfect for me.

Today over on the blog, I’m talking about dinner stress and how to avoid it. Plus, we’re giving you a super yummy salsa recipe that will have you rethinking buying salsa from a jar.

Let’s do it up right here.
