Doing our bestest
I’m back amongst the living!
That jet lag / cold combo was rough. I’m so happy to be feeling better. Earlier this week, I went to my workout class for the first time in a couple weeks. I wasn’t 100% better, but I was close enough to ease back into it.
And ease I did.
I didn’t do the full reps, I used lighter weights than usual, and I took more breaks. My instructor knew I had been sick, so she offered plenty of modifications to still get a good workout without overtaxing my body. I’ve been doing this with my food as well. A full batch hasn’t been in the cards for me since I got home, so I’ve been cooking really easy recipes from the portal using the “staples” filter and from this Mix & Match Collection, heating up a frozen burger, or microwaving some emergency Indian food packets I have in my cupboard. I’ve made a lot of smoothies and eaten a lot of fruit.
Basically, I’ve been meeting myself where I’m at, doing the best I can, and having that be absolutely good enough.
And this, my friend, should be normalized.
💻 We are not machines.
⏳We can’t go at the same pace all day every day.
👩 We have ever-changing human bodies.
⚡ Sometimes we feel energetic, strong, and capable of moving mountains.
🛌 Other times getting up to go pee feels big.
Because of this, doing our personal best is going to be different day-to-day.
Instead of deciding on the intensity in which you do something based on what you used to do or what you think you should do, take a pause, get curious, and base it on what is best for you in the moment.
Might it feel good to give a little more? Tap the accelerator.
Do you need to bring it down a notch? Ease up on the gas.
And here I thought I wasn’t a car gal, ha!
When you meet yourself where you’re at and do the best you can, it doesn’t matter the circumstances, you’ll always be in good hands with yourself.
I could have skipped my workout class until I felt 100% better. Or I could have pushed myself to do the full workout. But neither of those choices would have served me well, therefore, they would not have been my best.
Because doing our best shouldn’t feel like punishment, it should feel like tending to our bodies and our needs with respect, love, and the utmost care.
Have a beautiful weekend, may you do your best.
