Cuddling Habits That Are No Longer Serving You + Sweet and Salty Breakfast Toast

If you’re like most humans, you engage in a habit or two that is no longer serving you.

Maybe it’s the habit of not exercising.
Maybe it’s cheese.
Maybe it’s a weekly date with a fluffy, flaky croissant.
Maybe it’s drinking every night.
Maybe it’s eating chocolate ice cream until you feel sick.
Maybe it’s feeling guilty all the time.
Maybe it’s binging on grapes and brown rice.
Maybe it’s porn. Maybe it’s online shopping.
Maybe it’s never leaving your house.
Maybe it’s smoking cigarettes. Maybe it’s smoking weed.
Maybe it’s Taco Bell. Maybe it’s an affair. Maybe it’s complaining.
Maybe it’s eating out.
Maybe it’s prescription pills.
Maybe it’s hating your body.
Maybe it’s too much exercise.
Maybe it’s being ungrateful.
Maybe it’s the rush of feel good when sugar hits your mouth.
And just maybe, it’s a few of these things.

Whatever habit you’re cuddled up in bed with right now that is no longer serving you, it’s okay. We all have our shit and you are not alone, my love. Maybe you’re ready to be free of it. Maybe you’re not. Either way, YOU get to decide that timeline.

There are different stages that we all go through before we reach the point when we’re finally ready to open up and let go for good of whatever habit is no longer working for us.

There’s the fun stage when you get all up in the habit and just bathe in its magnetic pull. Maybe the habit is serving you in some way. Maybe it isn’t. It doesn’t matter. During this stage, letting it go is totally out of the question. You’re smitten with that habit and nothing can sway you.

There’s the stage of getting a tiny whisper that one day, you will have to do something about said habit or it will interfere with living the life that you want to live. You will hear the whisper, but it won’t be the sweet nothings you’re longing for, so you will ignore it. But the whisper keeps coming back, a little louder each time.

There’s the stage of finally listening to that whisper and trying to quit or cut back on the habit for the first time. Casual restraint might work for a little while. And then it might not. It’s a frustrating stage because it makes you feel batshit crazy. How is it possible to keep doing something that you KNOW isn’t serving you? It IS crazy. Trust me, I get it.

There’s the stage of breakdown when you feel absolutely emotionally and spiritually bankrupt, not just from your habit but from trying to STOP your habit. You feel tired, weak, and unable to deal with anything outside of an average day of your life. If nothing out of the ordinary happens you might be okay, but even a hint of crisis or bad news and your world starts to crumble because you feel unstable and unequipped to handle it. And this scares you because this is life and there WILL be crisis and bad news at some point, guaranteed.

Then finally, after the breakdown, there’s the final stage of picking up all the pieces and putting them back together. This is the stage of healing. This stage is hard and it will test you. But when you’re finally ready, this stage is waiting for you with warm open arms, sweet, tender kisses and lessons so deep that they massage your soul. When you get to the other side of this stage, the habit that was keeping you stuck and stagnant and angry and in pain for so long, quietly slips out the back door, without you even noticing that it made an exit.

I’ve hung out and bobbled around in all of these stages throughout my life. I’ve also helped a lot of people get from one stage to the next. Here’s what I can tell you with certainty:

You might want desperately to shed habits that are no longer serving you, but when you no longer serve your habits, they will shed themselves.

I’ve helped countless people show their self-defeating habits the door by introducing a pattern of self-love in the form of the whole food plant based lifestyle.  Once you embark down the path of self-love, it will spill over into your entire life.

I totally misunderstood the title. I thought you meant cuddling (as in cuddling in bed) habits that are bad for you! Funny.

Decent for a quick breakfast, but not the least bit sweet. Really, other than the seeds, it had no flavor at all. I am going to try it with bananas to see if I can sweeten it. Would not recommend.

Hi, Molly. A friend of mine steered me toward you and your site. I’m just doing a little research right now as to which avenue I want to travel in the way of health….I hope that’s ok! But I have to say, I’m really enjoying navigating through your blog. These posts are wonderful. I’m a 43-year old foster dad who has simply gotten complacent and gained a ton of weight. I’ve done plant based nutrition in the past and I enjoyed it, but the recipes I was trying were nothing as invigorating as these. You write to everyone as a PERSON, with wit and humor, not as a nutritionist giving a boring a lecture. It’s refreshing. Thanks again! – Sean

I LOVE this flavor combination! I am literally craving it now haha. I have yet to make the tamari sunflower seeds, and so have just been doing raw sunflower seeds and drizzling coconut aminos over top. Sooooo delicious! Thank you! I even had the toppings on pancakes and absolutely loved it lol.
