The Great Salad Revolt of 2017

The year was 2017.

Team Dirty had been riding high—our plant-powered meal plans were rolling out weekly like clockwork, and people from around the globe were chopping, blending, sautéeing, roasting, batching, and feasting with joy.

And then we had an idea.

“Let’s do an entire meal plan of salads.”

We were pumped. I love salads. The whole team loves salads. We thought it was a great idea!

The people did not agree.

And the messages came pouring in.

“Wait…is this ALL salads?”
“You’ve got to be kidding.”
“This feels like betrayal with a side of celery.”

A collective gasp echoed through our community.
It was The Great Salad Revolt.

Turns out, when most people think “salad,” they picture limp lettuce, dried-up cherry tomatoes, a cucumber round gone soft, and a couple carrot sticks wayyy past their prime. All suffocated by a heavy-handed pour of ranch dressing to drown out their sorrows and their taste.

That my friend is not a salad, it's a cry for help.

When I say salad, I mean Dirty style, a full-on meal that satisfies, satiates, and leaves you begging for more. If you’re not daydreaming about the salad you had for dinner last night, longing to make it again, you haven’t had one of our salads. The kind of salads we want to share with the world light people up, hit all the right spots, and have loads of flavors and textures. It’s a delicious opportunity to load up on veggies, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and yes, even fruit. When done right, they’re a whole-food plant-based party in your mouth!

Here are the meals we had queued up for Salad Week:

dirty salad meal plan

That’s:
🥦 21 different veggies.
🍍 8 different fruits.
🫘 3 different legumes.
🌾 1 type of grain.
🌻 2 different seeds.
🥜 1 type of nut.

It was unapologetically packed with plants.
And people unapologetically told us where we could stick those plants.

I tried to calm the masses, telling them salad week was going to be awesome and to #TrustTeamDirty.

Some members bailed.
Others grudgingly batched previous plans.
But a handful of curious, brave Dirties went for it. They chopped. They diced. They roasted. They Instant-Potted (did I just make up a word?). They batched. They trusted.

As the days went by, photos and reviews started rolling in, and what do you know? People were RAVING about the meals. They could not believe how yummy salad week was. They were filled with joy eating so many veggies. And the people who skipped it? They had major FOMO, jumped on the bandwagon to batch the plan, and decided to #TrustTeamDirty forevermore.

“OMG, this Caesar is life.”
“How did I almost skip this?!”
“Is it weird to fall in love with a salad?”

One by one, minds were changed. Salads were embraced. Tastebuds were wowed. Cells perked up.

So what does this tell us?

That salads can and should be full, satisfying meals you crave? Yes!

That you can’t be so sure you won't like something before you try it? Yes!

That getting outside of your comfort zone can be an amazing thing? Yes!

That resistance and fear can make us miss out on awesome experiences? Yes!

That you should #TrustTeamDirty? Yes!

That you should try this week’s brand new Sensational Salads meal plan? Yes! Because we did that shit again!

Yes to salads. Yes to life. Yes to all of it.

Cue happy endings, radiant health, and the sweet, sweet sensation of kale being massaged just right.
